HENKING WINS A GIJ AWARD ON GRADUATION DAY

Henking A. Adjase-Kodjo receiving his award as the MOST INSPIRING STUDENT (GIJ, 2009).
For his personal and proactive initiative which led to the reconstruction of the Odumase Presby Junior High School in the Lower Many Krobo District (now municipality) in the Eastern Region, Henking A. Adjase-Kodjo was awarded the Most Inspiring Student of the year during the 2009 graduation ceremony of the Ghana Institute of Journalism

He was awarded alongside three others including his friend, Noble Johnson Kwablah Kukubor, the overall Best Student and Doreen Ampofo, the Best Female Student.
In a citation read by Mrs. Patience Sowah, Deputy Registrar of the school, Mr. Adjase-Kodjo was commended for his dedicated effort which has brought a huge relief to the current crop of students and teachers of the school, which happens to be his alma matter.

During his final year in GIJ in 2009, Mr. Adjase-Kodjo did an emotive story about the dangerous and sorrowful state of the classroom block which was built in 1888, part of which once collapsed during a rainstorm in December 2008, killed a 12 year old class six pupil, Bernard Narteh and injured three others.

The article which was published in the May 7, 2009 edition of the Daily Graphic newspaper found favour with the management of Zain Ghana, a telecommunication company, who moved in quickly to demolish the colonial edifice, and built in its place a new six unit classroom block fitted with access ramp to facilitate movement of Persons With Disability (PWD).

Additionally, the facility came with a 30-seater computer lab with internet connectivity, a 40-seater library as well as a fully furnished staff common room and a headmaster’s office. The school was also connected with electricity and pipe borne water.

The school has since turned a resource center for other neighbouring schools in the community and a WAEC-approved center for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
